NOTE:
6/8/2026 A tough fourth quarter, Fever losing to the Mystics—by one point—1.2 seconds to go. Mystics were smiling. Fever fans glum, players intent.
Coaches rabidly drawing up plays in a time-out. Nobody thought they could pull it off. Let’s see what happens: CC wins the game!
Sophie Cunningham brings the ball in, considered 2 shooters—both had close defenders.
Sofie, spying Caitlin cross-court outside the 3-point line, tosses a ringer directly into Caitlin’s capable clutches. Caitlin arches the arrow over the court, “swish”—into the basket! They win the game by two points!
I never liked team sports, not me.
Til Caitlin showed on my TV.
First game—I was quite intrigued.
By the third, I was obsessed.
Who ever wouldda guessed
I’d be the one insisting, yes.
On watching every minute of every game
From April thru September?
CC made me show up for women’s basketball.
I, who never cared a whit for sports
Nor girls nor boys, could draw me in. Not me.
Then, in season 23-24, CC started hittin 3’s—
From the logo! You bet.
And broke the all-time scoring prize,
Stealing from both the girls’ and guys’.
Yep, I like watching Caitlin play.
CC made me show up for women’s basketball.
I, who never cared a whit for sports
Nor girls’ nor guys’ could draw me in. Not me.
I ignore the controversy though
Caused by her light skin’s glow.
Some folks suggest
She doesn’t get the hype from style and skill,
But just cuz she’s a light-skinned girl.
Still
CC made me show up for women’s basketball.
I, who never cared a whit for sports
Nor girls nor boys, could draw me in. Not me.
NOTE:
In June 15, 2026, My rates will rise—$5/mo and $50/year to $8/mo and $80/yr. If you’ve been considered becoming a paid sub, you may want to do it now before rates rise.
You would not be supporting just my work, literally and psychologically, but one-half of my substack income (after expenses) goes to other substack writers in the forms of subscriptions, “buy me a coffee’s.” (I do not buy books or other products with Substack income.)
I hope as many other substackers as possible can benefit. Currently, I have donated about $500 so far to other creators.
One way I have started supporting creators is donating thru the BUY COFFEE page: I will just do a one-time donation: $2-$10.
Or, I do a $2 donation and make it monthly. I realize it’s not much but I’m aiming for $200/mo donations. That rate would give 100 creators a bit of a financial and emotional boost.
The major problem with Buy a Coffee is that it doesn’t count towards Substack’s bestsellers list. :(
